What is #ASEFClassNet?
For over two decades, the ASEF Classroom Network (#ASEFClassNet) has been providing capacity-building opportunities for collaborative teaching and learning and a platform to explore the potential of cutting-edge EdTech tools and the integration of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in secondary, high, and vocational schools in the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Partner countries. Its target group is broad, given its intergenerational & multi-stakeholder outreach. It ranges from students, teachers, school leaders, teacher trainers, researchers, policymakers, and to EdTech experts. Since its inception, about 2,000 teachers from all 51 ASEM Partner countries have participated in and become members of the ASEF Classroom Network. As a result, about 35,000 students have been engaged in over 430 Asia-Europe School Collaborations and local spin-off activities.
12th ASEF Classroom Network Project
On 16-20 November 2015 in Sofia, Bulgaria, ASEF ClassNet teachers conversed in the 21st century language of coding. They shared good practices and received practical training from business and government representatives on the use of coding, web-based tools, and other technology in secondary, vocational and high-school education
Over 100 teachers from 74 schools in 38 ASEM partner countries gathered to share good practices and received practical training from business and government representatives on the use of coding, web-based tools, and other technology in secondary and high-school education.
A variety of expert talks and panel discussions on “Coding, Technology and its possible Application” gave teachers knowledge and inspiration to take back to their classrooms. Practical workshops which exposed the opportunities for coding in wider education, as well as sharing of case studies and a market place for the best practices of ICT in education, equipped teachers with practical actions to help their students speak the language of the 21st century. Teachers and students also took a deep dive into the Bulgarian school system, which culminated in visits to 2 local schools.
34 new Online Collaborations which would improve intercultural understanding and ICT skills of students were planned by teachers from schools across Asia and Europe. 6 of the previous year’s Online Collaborations were showcased by the participating teachers and students before being presented with ASEF ClassNet Awards in recognition of their outstanding work.
