Language Learning Reimagined: AI in Practice

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly transforming language education, creating new opportunities for communication, creativity and personalised learning while raising important pedagogical and ethical questions. Language teachers increasingly need practical guidance to integrate AI meaningfully, helping students use these tools critically, creatively and responsibly rather than as shortcuts to learning.

This four-week online capacity-building course brings together language teachers from Asia and Europe to explore how AI can enhance language learning while preserving communication, critical thinking and learner agency. Through research-informed discussions, demonstrations of classroom practice, collaborative lesson design and intercultural dialogue, participants will examine AI tools, reflect on their pedagogical value and ethical implications, and design learning activities suitable for diverse educational contexts.

Working in international teams, participants will progressively co-create a practical Language Learning Reimagined Toolkit, bringing together adaptable classroom activities, reflection prompts, ethical guidelines and recommendations for responsible AI integration. The toolkit will provide language teachers with practical ideas that can be adapted across languages, learner levels and educational settings while fostering a community of educators committed to thoughtful and human-centred AI use.

Goals

The goals are to:

  • develop teachers’ confidence in using AI to enhance language learning.
  • design adaptable classroom activities promoting communication, creativity and critical thinking.
  • co-create a practical toolkit for responsible AI use in language education.
